It's a snow day here

We woke up to a foot of snow! The kids have had the best time playing out in it.

Snowday January 2009

David has worked all night and is going on being out there 15 hrs. He had 4hrs sleep from the snow storm the night before. There are big snow flakes coming down as I type. He will be worn out! At least he will be able to get in the drive when he gets home :-) They haven't cleared our road out front at all today. Sure glad to be in my warm home.

Why is it....

when we have company the driveway never seems big enough. However, today as I was shoveling the snow it felt very large.

I love these Winter cheeks

Just startin my day...

It's Maxwell House original blend 100% Arabica beans
add a little cream and I'm good to go.
This is how I gain my "strength".
A side note...
My Grandma told me to never set anything on top of your bible as a way of showing respect for it. This has stuck with me through the years. It makes me wonder, what am I saying that will stick in the minds of my little ones. Will it be lasting? Will it make a difference?

I thought I woud share...

My sister sent these jars of jelly to me for Christmas. A friend of hers made them. I have them sitting on my kitchen window ledge. Some of them are familiar flavors like Peach Marmelade, Pear and Strawberry but there is one that I have never heard of, Muscadine. Is this a southern name for a familiar flavor like grape? What do you think?
These jars represent alot of hard work. I have really enjoyed having them where the sun can shine through their jewel colors.

I've said before that I don't know how my decorating style should be defined. I am drawn to a country look where I love having my Grandma's aprons hanging on a hook, baskets displayed above the kitchen cabinets and jelly jars set out on the window ledge.
Then I decorate like this in the living room
The sofas are a little more shabby than chic but I don't think it would be a good investment to get new right now. The littlest one in the family is banned from scissors until she is 6. There are suspicious "wear and tear" areas.

I had some birthday money that was burning a hole in my pocket. I went to Hobby Lobby and picked out an assortment of flowers for this wreath.

It's Eng 101...

This isn't a large stack of books but it represents where alot of my time is going.

Going back to school at my age is very scary. Each class seems daunting and then it somehow becomes managable. I'm one week into Eng 101 and I'm surviving. Well maybe I should wait to see the grades. I have completed baby step 1--a 250 word response to an essay. It is impowering to cross a hurdle like this in my life but I want to keep in perspective where my strength comes from.

Homemade play dough

The kids came home from school the other day and wanted to play with play dough. It had been awhile so the dough was dried out or old. We only had lemonade kool-aide so everybody got yellow play dough. I just googled homemade play dough for the recipe. This one required 1 cup of salt. Now salt is pretty cheap but are they just trying to prevent little children from eating the dough?

They have had a lot of fun with not much effort on my part! I wonder what they will remember from their childhood.

Dressed and ready for a tea party

Sarah Brooke and Ashley are the best playmates and the biggest mess makers.
Sarah Brooke has a such a giving heart. She is always "teaching" Ashley and was the one responsible for this spontaneous tea party. Ashley is our song bird, willing guest and obedient student most of the time.
FYI The "event" planner had music playing softly and dressed the guest and herself. She must have been a great teacher because the next day Ashley had her own tea party while Sarah Brooke was at school. She had the music playing and her party table had a candle that I "fired" up per her request. Can we pause time to let me enjoy this moment and worry about the mess later?

I used to think...

What was my Mother thinking!!! Then I had kids of my own and I realized that some days it is easier to just let them dress themselves. I wish I had a scanner and the picture from my childhood but I think Sarah Brooke looks very much like I did at this age. My mother let me wear a teal colored dress with red knee socks and I'm sure it was taken in the front yard. What was she thinking!!!!

My sweet girls were dressed for warmth to go play out in their play house, in the BACK yard. It seems now that the weather is cold they have a yearning to be outside. I somehow wonder if they will remember what they were fixing to do or will they grow up and ask me "What was I thinking?"

Guilty pleasures...

I had a birthday ya'll. I love birthdays but not the getting older part. It was a day of indulging myself and being pampered. I finished up the delightful day with my family and an oreo/brownie earthquake from DQ .

Now I hope I can fit into that new outfit.
